Food Rescue is proud to report that since initiating the K-12 Food Rescue project in July, 2014:
- More than 565 Indiana schools and 623 national schools in 66 districts came on board as partners prior to Covid 19, diverting more than 17 million food items from landfills and into the hands of 42 partner food agencies since 2016.
- Over 500,00 students prior to Covid 19 contributed to recovery and donation efforts taking place in their own school cafeterias, empowering them to make positive change in their world that will benefit the environment, and members of their community suffering from hunger and food insecurity.
- Rebuilding after Covid 19 has led to over 500 schools re-starting their K-12 Food Rescue programs, but there is so much more work to be done, and even more fear to overcome than ever before. Over 43 million food items have been logged into our K-12 Food Rescue tracking tool as "rescued" since the tool was introduced in 2016. As food shortages are being discussed, and inflation skyrockets, the time to steward the food we do have has never been more important. Thank you for supporting our mission to empower students to lead the #FoodIsNotTrash movement!
