2015/2016 School Year Blog Post By Danyele Easterhaus with Student Impact In Westfield Indiana: Every week, a group of totally amazing people drive around to all 9 of the Westfield Washington Schools and pick up food from the cafeterias that was "saved" or "rescued" from the trash...students place unused or unwanted items in a bin that we re-distribute to families in Westfield. This week, 27 families were given a huge box of food...including fresh fruit, milk, cheese sticks, gravy, Mac and cheese, carrots, broccoli and much, much more. What does a typical week look like...well, it's insane! 150 string cheese 250 carrot sticks 200 apples, oranges, bananas and pears 200 bags of apple slices 647 milks 250 juice cups 110 fresh fruit cups 6lbs of yogurt ...and that doesn't even begin to complete the list. Food Rescue in Westfield Washington Schools in coordination with Stilts Spirit - A Giving Tree has grown by leaps and bounds already this year. I could use your help...see the team in the picture...we need to add some amazing people to it. Here's what I specifically need: *3-4 pick up drivers (designated specific school, Friday's on the school calendar, between 9-11am) *3-5 Sorters (each Friday of the school calendar, 11a-12p at Student Impact) *2-5 Delivery Drivers (each Friday of the school calendar, 12-1p pick up at Student Impact and deliver to specific addresses in Westfield. No personal contact, simply leaving the food in a cooler at the home) Sign up for weekly, monthly or a one time volunteer time. Any time you can provide is super helpful...and much appreciated by many. Please contact me here or via message if you are interested. We begin again this Friday and I do need a few extras for this week if you are available. The City of Westfield is full of totally amazing and wonderful people who are full of big hearts...let's show even more people a little love each week with some food on their door step. Be the Change! Thanks to everyone who helps with Food Rescue...the cafeterias, staff, admin, etc...and huge thanks to Stilts Spirit - A Giving Tree that makes it all happen each week and for their live in this community!!
